Event Horizon Residency 'Windmill 1853'- Crete
Event Horizon studios are set in 30,000 Sqm (3 hectaresā/ā8 acres) of private land (owned by Julienne) and is close to the sea. The land is primarily an olive grove at the beginning of the Havgas gorge. There is a gigantic Mediterranean Oak spread so broadly that it becomes a tree house. There are plenty of places to walk and muse on the land. It is effectively a nature reserve and so there are no crazing animals allowed resulting in a plethora of Cretan Fauna visible all year round. Accommodation - Windmill was built in 1853 and has been converted into a home by Julienne, the mechanisms are all intact in the space which is compact and cosy. It comprises of two floors totaling 51 sq.m There is a 150 sq.m garden in the original enclosure. For any residents staying in Neapolis Town a studio is available walking distance from the Windmill accommodation. The studio is ideal especially during with winter months when rural life is more challenging. Neapolis is 10km from Event Horizon Studios and is the nearest town. It was the former municipality in Lasithi, eastern Crete. There is a lively Greek community who frequent the countless cafes and tavernas. The surrounding area is mountainous and is surrounded by olive trees. The Event Horizon studio buildings are made from shipping containers set in 3 hectares (8 acres) of nature reserve and olive grove meadows. The 130sqm container studio building is insulated with Polystyrene foamboard under Marine Ply cladding on the outside walls and PolTherma DS sandwich panels on the roof. The design layout forms a square tunnel with many windows and doors opening onto an atrium for natural light.

By Car from Neapolis Town: Event Horizon Studios: 10 minutes. Heraklion Airport: 50min. By Bus: There are frequent buses from the Airport to Neapolis town. By Bicycle: There are two bikes provided for artists. 50 minute cycle ride from Neapolis Town to Event Horizon Studios.
