Located on the French Riviera just outside Cannes, Château de La Napoule offers artists the rare opportunity to live and work inside one of Europe’s most historically unique creative environments. Run by the La Napoule Art Foundation, the residency combines independent artistic practice with the atmosphere of an active international arts foundation. Artists stay within the historic château estate overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, surrounded by sculpture gardens, medieval architecture, preserved artist studios, and a long legacy of artistic exchange. Unlike structured retreat programs, the Creative Stay model is designed for artists who want freedom, privacy, and uninterrupted time to focus on their work while still lightly connecting with the energy of the wider artistic community onsite. The atmosphere is reflective, inspiring, communal when desired, and deeply tied to the artistic history of the château itself. Residents may work independently while occasionally crossing paths with retreat participants, visiting artists, curators, and cultural programming taking place throughout the estate. Artists staying at Château de La Napoule will be assigned one of several unique studio spaces across the estate, each offering its own atmosphere, history, and creative energy. Studio assignments are thoughtfully managed by the La Napoule Art Foundation team based on availability, artistic discipline, residency scheduling, and the overall flow of the programme. Studio spaces include: Tomb Tower Studio (Lover’s Tower) — an extraordinary historic tower studio located above the crypts of Henry and Marie Clews, offering an immersive and atmospheric workspace ideal for reflective and independent creative practice. Mystic Studio — a larger château-based studio space with a grand historic atmosphere, well suited to collaborative or expansive visual practices. Noele Clews Studio — a flexible shared studio environment inspired by the artistic legacy of the Clews family, suitable for interdisciplinary and collaborative work. Daisy Studio — located within the Villa, this bright and characterful studio offers a more intimate creative environment with strong ties to the history of the estate. Rather than selecting a specific studio during booking, artists are placed into the space that best suits their stay and the château’s live residency schedule. This flexible approach allows the foundation to maintain the unique rhythm of the estate while ensuring every artist has access to an inspiring and functional workspace during their residency. Likewise with the bedrooms, we will assign you one according to availibility.
